Deputy Chair, Cho Siyeon

Head Chair

Juhyeong Song

Respected Delegates, Student officers, Directors, and guests. Welcome to KISMUN 2021!
I am Juhyeong Song and it is my utmost pleasure to be serving you as the Head Chair of SPECPOL, the United Nations Special Political and Decolonization Committee. This is my 7th time in a conference, 2nd time as a Chair, and the first time as the Head Chair of SPECPOL.
Honoring its eighth year, KISMUN has been an event for all participants to step closer in being vocal and involving members of the global community. Participating in numerous conferences, I realized something so important. What really matters in MUN is not winning somebody else in an argument. The meaning of MUN is not in making POIs that no one can answer, or making a speech that no one can refute. Sometimes we won’t be able to answer questions, and might be afraid to stand in front of the podium. But that is so natural. Not every question has a perfect answer to it, and the answer I believed to be true might be total nonsense to others. What really makes MUN special is that it helps us reach a consensus on diversity. It makes unity necessary. Because of this, I want all delegates to speak up, and say what they believe as a representative of a nation. Delegates, you don’t have to be afraid. Just give it a shot.
The slogan of KISMUN 2021 is ‘Beyond your limits’. Your only limitations are those you set in mind. Do not permit others to define your limitations. I truly hope this conference can be an opportunity for students to gain valuable and meaningful memories, from the bottom of my heart.

Sincerely,
Juhyeong Song  Head chair of  the United Nations Special Political and Decolonization Committee,

Deputy Chair

Siyeon Cho

Hello, I am Siyeon and it is really my pleasure to join KISMUN this year as the deputy chair of SPECPOL.
“Cooperating is like sticking things together with glue, but communicating and understanding is the glue.” said by Gia Hy Huynh, a renown volleyball team leader. I am sure that many of the students would be tired of having quarantine at home: sticking to their laptops trying to complete their homework, looking outside of the window like how Elsa did in Frozen I, and mostly, missing their time before quarantine when they were able to freely socialize with people. However, it’s all about finding the calm in the chaos. Although meeting people offline might be impossible until the end of 2021, it is crucial for us to communicate and understand each other- express our ideas, and be able to cooperate with each other- especially in this kind of situation. That’s why I believe this year’s KISMUN is special and significant.
Last but not least, I would like to end this introduction by citing a quote from Ella Christea, a peacemaker and a co-founder of the treelink aimed for peaceful purposes: “It takes a lot of resilience to get to the moon by yourself, but reaching out for help can make it easier, like how Armstrong used rockets.” Delegates, it is totally normal to get confused during the conference. Everyone in the conference room (even me!) has been there before, so don’t worry at all! Ask your fellow delegates or us chairs because that’s the reason why we are here. Try to ask and learn many things during MUN; utilize this opportunity to become a better version of you. Just try your best, push yourself out of your comfort zone, and most importantly, enjoy!

Sincerely,
Siyeon Cho, Deputy Chair of SPECPOL
